New Deal: Oppenhoff puts together new remuneration package for lawyers

Flexibility, family-friendliness and personal, professional training: this is the clear focus of the commercial law firm Oppenhoff’s new remuneration package for its lawyers. In addition, young professionals can now look forward to a salary of up to €125,000 per year, which can rise to €240,000 over time.

"Oppenhoff is known for breaking new and different ground. This is why, in addition to the salary increase, our New Deal includes a number of benefits that will make our lawyers' professional and personal lives easier," explains the firm’s chairwoman Myriam Baars-Schilling. "Our colleagues are lawyers with a passion, but want to be able to act as flexibly as possible. We provide the appropriate space for both."

Among other things, lawyers at Oppenhoff will be able to take a two-month sabbatical from their 4th year onwards. Parents receive even better subsidies for day-care places and access to a childcare service that can also step in at very short notice in an emergency. "At the latest, the past two years of pandemic have shown us all how important backup solutions are. Parents still often find the balancing act between work and family very challenging. This is where we want to provide the best possible support," says Myriam Baars-Schilling.

Furthermore, Oppenhoff also encourages part-time work: "When it comes to promotion decisions, it can and should only be a matter of personal and professional skills and not whether someone leaves the office in the afternoon or evening." Hence, for many years now Oppenhoff has already been offering alternative career paths in the form of flexible part-time models or job sharing.

Oppenhoff has always been known for its comprehensive education and training program. Now, the firm is making it even easier for its lawyers to enter the international arena: secondments at friendly law firms abroad enable lawyers to broaden their own horizons and establish networks. Other benefits round off the package, such as the option to work 40% of the time from home or elsewhere with full technical equipment.

Commercial lawyers can now earn 70,000 euros in their first year at Oppenhoff, which includes a 5,000 euro bonus. Salaries for research assistants and trainee lawyers are also being increased.

Last year, Oppenhoff recruited 16 lawyers and commercial law specialists - and thus grew by around 20% in terms of headcount. The firm also hired 35 research assistants and legal trainees. It will be continuing its dynamic growth at all levels this year.
