Caterina Hanke has been a lawyer at Oppenhoff since 2021. She studied law at the University of Bayreuth, where she worked at the Chair of Civil Law, Private International Law and Comparative Law as well as at the Chair of Civil Law, Intellectual Property Law and Commercial Law. During her legal internship, Caterina Hanke worked, among other things, at the German Chamber of Commerce for Spain in Madrid, at a major international law firm and at a sports marketing company. Before transferring to Oppenhoff, she worked as a lawyer in the litigation department of a US commercial law firm in Frankfurt am Main, where she also handled cases relating to intellectual property law, in particular trademark law.
Experience
Caterina Hanke advises and represents companies from a range of sectors, both in and out of court, in commercial disputes. She has many years of experience in examining and analysing complex and extensive cases. Her work focuses in particular on defending against and enforcing claims for damages of all kinds, with a special emphasis on general contract law and professional liability. She also represents her clients in arbitration proceedings. Caterina Hanke also advises on trade mark law matters.
As founder and head of the “Sport, Gaming and Entertainment” initiative, Caterina Hanke not only addresses current legal issues in these dynamic sectors, but also advises clients from the sport, gaming and entertainment industries on resolving legal challenges.

No compensation of damages after foul in football match without proof of gross violation of rules
The plaintiff asserted damage claims at first instance against an opposing football player after a tackle during an amateur football match in which he suffered a fractured tibia and fibula, followed by a weakness of the big toe flexor and post-traumatic compartment syndrome. He claimed that the defendant had fouled him with a deliberate, illegal "reckless sliding tackle" (“Blutgrätsche”), despite there being no chance of reaching the ball.
