Strengthening its position in Hamburg: Oppenhoff recruits Sebastian Zeeck for its restructuring practice

Oppenhoff is strengthening its position in Hamburg: corporate and insolvency lawyer Dr Sebastian Zeeck, LL.M., founding partner of Eversheds Sutherland's Hamburg office, joins the firm's Hamburg office as equity partner effective 1 February 2021.

Sebastian Zeeck specialises in restructuring and advising enterprises in crisis and insolvency on the one hand, and on complex corporate transactions and disputes on the other. He advises listed companies, medium-sized companies and entrepreneurs as well as insolvency administrators.

The firm’s spokesman, Dr. Gilbert Wurth, commented: "Sebastian Zeeck is an excellent addition to our team, both professionally and personally. With him, we can continue to promote the strategic growth of our Hamburg office. In the current economic climate, our clients will especially benefit from his vast experience in restructuring advice."

Dr. Sebastian Zeeck commented: "Oppenhoff is a German partnership of excellent lawyers and, moreover, an address with particular appeal. The firm offers the ideal environment to expand my business and to best meet the complex challenges of our clients nationally and internationally. I am very much looking forward to meeting my new colleagues and to further developing the Hamburg office with them."

Antitrust and distribution law partner Dr. Simon Spangler will also be working from both Hamburg and Frankfurt in the future, with a focus on retail and consumer goods as well as healthcare companies. From the firm’s Hamburg office, Prof. Dr. Heiko Höfler, Dr. Robert Glawe, Dr. Harald Gesell, Dr. Axel Wenzel, Dr. Angela Busche and Christian Fischer, among others, currently advise on public law, corporate law, succession issues and IT law.

Oppenhoff‘s insolvency and restructuring practice will have a total of six partners in the future. Oppenhoff regularly advises investors, companies and creditors in the run-up to and during insolvency, especially clients in the automotive and IT sector. Dr. Nefail Berjasevic most recently advised, among others, nd industrial investments on the acquisition of a majority shareholding in the electric car manufacturer e.GO.

After completing his studies and doctorate (Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law), Sebastian Zeeck concentrated on advising on corporate law and restructuring, initially in an international law firm in Hamburg and most recently as a long-standing partner of Eversheds Sutherland, whose Hamburg office he helped to set up. In between his years at law firms, he was deputy head of the staff legal department at a large, internationally renowned trading group and thus also has in-house experience.

At Eversheds Sutherland, Sebastian Zeeck's corporate and corporate finance clients in Hamburg include Berenberg, EDEKA, Körber and EuroEyes in connection with an IPO in Hong Kong. In the area of restructuring, for example, he was recently retained by an internationally renowned enterprise in the aviation industry. Furthermore, he has advised the shareholders of Bagel Bakery on a successful reorganisation as well as numerous and well-known domestic and foreign clients as creditors in many widely recognised insolvency proceedings, including those concerning GALERIA Karstadt Kaufhof and Senvion.
