Against radicalisation on the internet: Oppenhoff advises Alfred Landecker Foundation on promotion of “CeMAS” think-tank

Oppenhoff has advised the Alfred Landecker Foundation as the exclusive start-up sponsor of the think-tank “CeMAS”, short for “Centre for Monitoring, Analysis and Strategy”. As a non-profit organisation, CeMAS bundles interdisciplinary expertise on topics such as conspiracy ideologies, anti-Semitism and right-wing extremism. The start-up works with an early-warning system that is unique in Germany and will enable anti-democratic trends to be identified better and earlier.

Lena Altman, Chief Administrative Officer of the Alfred Landecker Foundation, stated: “We are very proud of how quickly we were able to implement this project with the fantastic support of Oppenhoff. In less than five months we have managed to create a non-profit start-up on a highly topical subject with a team of top experts that fits wonderfully into the ALF community and the Foundation’s vision.”

Through systematic online monitoring and modern study designs, CeMAS analyses current developments on the internet and their impact on society. The analysis focuses on content that is harmful to society and that leads to hate campaigns and disinformation via messenger services such as Telegram.

The Alfred Landecker Foundation, which is headquartered in Berlin, was established in 2019 by the Reimann entrepreneurial family. The Foundation promotes and accelerates the development of an open, democratic and non-discriminatory society – innovatively, courageously and disruptively. As an incubator for democracy in the digital age, the Alfred Landecker Foundation puts technological progress and comprehensive expertise at the service of open societies, for the fight against anti-Semitism and racism, and a contemporary culture of remembrance. The Foundation creates networks, spaces and knowledge by supporting, promoting, networking and professionalising interdisciplinary projects. By building a network of globally operating partners, it makes knowledge and experience widely available and brings together a wide variety of perspectives from science and practice.

The Oppenhoff team, led by Dr. Axel Wenzel, comprised David Falkowski (both Corporate, Private Clients), Marc Krischer, Elmar Krüsmann (both Tax), Dr. Vanessa Pickenpack (Arbitration) and Georg Lecheler (IP).
