Dr. Simon Spangler<br/>LL.M. (UCT)


Simon specialises in EU and German antitrust law, in particular restrictive practices, prohibition of abuse as well as merger control, distribution law and e-commerce and beyond that subsidies and state aid. He advises national and international companies in various sectors, including trade and consumer goods. He is a member of Oppenhoff’s retail and consumer goods sector group.

Simon is a lecturer for antitrust compliance trainings as well as courses for antitrust and state aid law. He regularly publishes on antitrust and distribution law topics. Besides others, he is a long year author of the German part of the International Encyclopedia of Agency Distribution Agreements (Kluwer, together with Dr. Klaus Günther).

Simon is a member of the board of the antitrust law forum KartellrechtsForum Frankfurt (German Antitrust Law Forum) and a member of the Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht (German Antitrust Lawyers’ Association).

He is recommended in the law firm handbook Legal 500 for the areas of antitrust law and trade, distribution, logistics.


Simon Spangler has been a lawyer with Oppenhoff since 2013. He studied law in Heidelberg and Kiel where he received his doctorate with his dissertation on an antitrust law topic under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jickeli. During his traineeship he also worked in various departments within a large international law firm in Frankfurt am Main and at the Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. Thereafter, he continued his studies at the University of Aberdeen and the University of Cape Town (LL.M.) and wrote his Master's thesis on an antitrust law topic. Prior to joining Oppenhoff, he worked for Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, since 2011, where he advised on antitrust and state aid matters.
