Oppenhoff welcomes Dr. Thomas Fischl to its IT and data law practice in Munich

Oppenhoff continues the expansion of its Munich office and has won Dr. Thomas Fischl, a leading expert in IT and data law, as a partner. He joins Oppenhoff from Reed Smith effective 1 July 2026.

Dr. Thomas Fischl brings more than 20 years of experience in the fields of IT, data and media law. He advises national and international companies on all legal issues relating to digitalisation, digital media, the Internet of Things (IoT), virtual reality, social media and the data economy. His particular areas of expertise include data protection, cybersecurity and IT compliance.

As a recognised expert in the legal assessment of emerging technologies, he advises companies of all sizes on technology transactions, digital transformation projects and the development of data-driven business models. He also has extensive experience advising on complex IT and outsourcing projects, as well as drafting and negotiating cloud, software and licensing agreements. With his broad market and regulatory expertise, he further strengthens Oppenhoff’s advisory capabilities in relation to European digital regulation and the evolving framework of EU digital laws.

Firm Spokesperson Jörn Kuhn: “With Dr. Thomas Fischl, we are gaining an exceptionally well-connected and experienced IT law expert for our firm. His arrival strengthens our Munich office and further expands our IT and data law practice. Further planned additions will broaden our expertise even further. This will allow us to sharpen our advisory services in the areas of digital transformation, the new EU digital laws and our full-service approach.”

Dr. Thomas Fischl: “I am very pleased to be part of the Oppenhoff team. The firm already has an exceptionally well-established IT and data law practice. Together with the team, we aim to further expand our advisory services in Munich and provide clients with even more comprehensive support on complex IT and data law projects in the future.”

With the addition of Dr. Thomas Fischl, Oppenhoff continues to expand its IT and data law practice in Munich. A senior associate will join the Munich team shortly, and further additions are already planned.

Oppenhoff’s IT and Data Law practice advises national and international companies on all aspects of digitalisation and the evolving EU regulatory framework, data protection, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, cloud and platform projects, as well as complex IT transactions and technology contracts. The practice is led by Dr. Marc Hilber and Dr. Jürgen Hartung. Working closely with the Venture Capital, Private Equity and M&A teams, the practice also advises national and international clients on technology-driven transactions, investments and complex digital transformation projects.
