Oppenhoff lawyer Vanessa Pickenpack elected to the presidium of the German Bar Association

Dr Vanessa Pickenpack, specialist in conflict resolution and partner of the commercial law firm Oppenhoff & Partner, was elected to the presidium of the association at the extraordinary board meeting of the German Bar Association [Deutscher Anwaltsverein, DAV] on 21 March 2019. In the election of the DAV board, Edith Kindermann, a lawyer and notary public, was elected president. Another new member of the presidium alongside Vanessa Pickenpack is the lawyer Martin Schafhausen.

In line with her professional focus and as a member of the committee for civil procedure law, Vanessa Pickenpack will handle the topics procedural law, arbitration proceedings and alternative dispute resolution, observing relevant aspects and developments and ensuring that they are dealt with on the committee as well as by the management of the association.

Dr Vanessa Pickenpack commented: "I am particularly looking forward to this new task. It also includes the promotion of young lawyers. I find it particularly important to inspire young lawyers and potential lawyers with enthusiasm for our profession and for the DAV. We are going to become even more active as an association in this respect."

Vanessa Pickenpack specialises in representation before state courts and arbitration tribunals as well as in the examination and drafting of contracts in civil, commercial and business law. Her main areas of practice include cartel damages proceedings, in which she represents both claimants and defendants. She also regularly acts as an arbitrator in ad hoc and institutional arbitration proceedings. At Oppenhoff & Partner, she heads the conflict resolution practice group.

She has been a member of the DAV executive board since 2017 and is deputy chairwoman of the advisory board of the Conciliation Board for the Legal Profession [Schlichtungsstelle der Rechtsanwaltschaft]. Vanessa Pickenpack is also a member of various arbitration associations (DIS/DIS40, ICC Young Arbitrator´s Forum) and a founding member of the Cologne Vis Moot School.
