"Challenging tasks right from the start"
Katharina Leoff, LL.M., Associate, Corporate Law/M&A
“When I joined OPPENHOFF & PARTNER as an associate in the corporate law/M&A department at the end of 2014, this was my first job as a lawyer. I had heard all kinds of things about working at a commercial law firm – the long working hours, the stress, and the menial tasks you were often given to begin with…
I very quickly learned that this was not the case, however. From the very start I was given very varied and interesting tasks every day - ranging from a chain merger through to the coordination and implementation of a pan-European restructuring and the general legal counselling of clients. There were also lectures and pitches to be prepared and urgent client questions to be answered. Furthermore, there were extensive further educational events such as Legal English courses and internal tutorials and workshops (for example on negotiation management and writing due diligence reports, a topic definitely of particular importance in my practice area). I would especially like to mention a course on balance sheet accounting given by a very experienced lecturer, which provided indispensable basic knowledge on bookkeeping and balance sheet analysis.
It is never boring at OPPENHOFF & PARTNER. I still learn something new every day. I can take any questions I have not only to my lead partner, but also to any other partners at the firm at any time. There is always someone there who is prepared to take the time to explain topics that I am not yet familiar with. Admittedly, some days are longer than others, especially during the peak phases of a transaction, shortly before signing and closing. But this balances itself out again during the calmer periods.
What definitely characterises the work at OPPENHOFF & PARTNER is its great working environment and the strong team spirit amongst all colleagues. It is not least because of this that working at OPPENHOFF & PARTNER is truly something special.
