“Six weeks of experiencing a lawyer’s daily work and a lot of fun”
Six weeks of experiencing a lawyer’s daily work and a lot of fun
The second trainee programme was a huge success
The final evening’s celebrations were a last challenge for students and lawyers alike: 15 legal trainees took their leave from Oppenhoff & Partner – and expressed their sadness the next day: “We have really enjoyed our time here, learnt a lot and dispelled quite a few prejudices“, summarised the students of the 2012 Sommeruni at the closing breakfast.
For the second year running the commercial law firm has conducted its legal trainee programme, which has been distinguished with the azur Award 2012: six straight weeks of practical training in two practice areas under the guidance of a personal mentor; insights into numerous areas of law which are not on the mandatory university curriculum but are often of major practical relevance; several practical workshops such as a mini moot court, negotiation training, team-based work on a specific case and an M&A workshop; and finally constant opportunities for personal talks with the lawyers and with fellow trainees, e.g. on an excursion to a climbing park.
Jill Boecke, a student at the University of Bonn, commented: “It was well worth it in all respects. We grew together as a team and gained an indepth insight into the law firm‘s work. I would especially like to highlight the positive working environment and the friendliness with which we were welcomed into the firm.”
Oppenhoff partner Günter Seulen, who organised the programme together with a team of lawyers and other staff members, was equally positive: “We have really enjoyed the last six weeks and were impressed by the commitment, team spirit and professional proficiency of the legal trainees.”
One thing is certain: Another Sommeruni is to be held in 2013; exact dates and application formalities will be announced in due course.
