54th UIA Congress, Istanbul - Dr. Stephan König is President of the M&A Commission of the UIA

The international lawyers’ association Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA) elected Dr. Stephan König as President of its M&A Commission at this year’s UIA Congress, which was held in Istanbul between 30 October and 3 November. Dr. Stephan König has been Vice President of the M&A Commission of the UIA since 2006.

Dr. König’s election is verification of his international legal services and of the international orientation of his firm Oppenhoff & Partner. Dr. König, 53, is specialised in corporate acquisitions and the coordination of cross-border corporate transactions. In recent years he has gained particular experience in the industrial sectors automotive, mechanical engineering and commerce. He is a founding member of the law firm of Oppenhoff & Partner and was previously a partner of Linklaters LLP.

The UIA was established in 1927 by European lawyers who were convinced of the importance of international contacts in the future business environment. Today, the UIA is a global association to which more than 200 law societies, organisations and federations belong, and which boasts a strength of almost 2 million members.
The M&A Commission has several hundred members, whose focus is the provision of legal advice on international transactions. Under the management or participation of the M&A Commission, specialist conferences are held annually during the scope of the annual UIA congress, but also international seminars on M&A topics. For example, in September 2011 the first Business Law Forum of the UIA will be opened in Barcelona with the participation of the M&A Commission, handling the topics project business (PPP) and transactions in the infrastructure sector.
